The scene where Donnie arrives at school is a representation of a 1980's MTV music video. Richard Kelly recalls seeing the video 'Janie's got a Gun' by Aerosmith. The person in 'Janie's got a Gun' has a vision in it, similar to Donnie knowing that the world is going to end. Donnie had an epiphany of what is going to happen in the tangent universe.
