Edward Scissorhands was a very interesting film to study. It had several themes and ideas that stood out and made you think. Its characters are stereotypical and many of the conflicts you can relate to everyday life problems. The film is set in an exaggerated vision of a suburbia that combines clichés of several eras. The houses in suburbia elevate the superficiality, as they are all brightly coloured, and almost look identical. The castle where Edward lives is dark and ominous, providing a dramatic contrast between the two. These two settings draw in the audience and sparks off their curiosity as they wait in anticipation to what lies ahead. With the setting cemented into the audience's minds, Burton gives us a central theme to the film - an isolated, misunderstood main character - Edward.
