In film, the camera angle, use of lighting, music, and costume all contribute to create meaning - they influence or manipulate our understanding and viewpoint: Discuss how Peter Weir accentuates the gulf between the two cultures, through the use of cinematic technique. Witness, was produced in 1985 at Paramount studios. The film was shot in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The main character is John Book, who is played by Harrison Ford. The main actress is Kelly McGillis who plays the mother of a young Amish boy, Samuel Lapp. Lancaster is home to one of the biggest Amish communities in the World, so it was an ideal setting for Witness to be filmed. Some scenes in the film give the viewers a clear idea of what the Amish lifestyle is like. There are scenes of windmills, barns, and the traditional water pump, which is used to power the farm.
