Leah Gray Discuss Hitchcocks shower scene in 'Psycho' and why it is so successful. In the lead up to the shower scene we see that Marion meets the owner of a motel, we find out that his name is Norman Bates. At first he comes across as a nice well mannered man, but we soon see that he is very edgy, we see this when Marion kindly suggests that maybe his mother should be put into a special home, he suddenly gets all up tight and upset. We can also see he isn't a all-round nice guy, because he looks at Marion through a little gap in the wall this raises our suspicion.
