Kit Carnell, 10DL Describe how the makers of the film "Let Him Have It" have adapted and presented the story of Bentley to involve the audience & persuade them that a miscarriage of justice took place. The film "Let Him have it" was released in 1991. It is about Derek Bentley and how he was falsely accused of murder and hung. Director Peter Medak's purpose in making the film was to show that Bentley was innocent and the film is shot very much from his point of view. It is also a powerful argument against capital punishment and asks us to be more understanding about youth crime. We are left angry that a miscarriage of justice has occurred. Seven years after the film was released Bentley was pardoned. The serious intention of the film is clear from the opening black screen, sombre music, titles in a gravestone-font.
