Danielle Jones Comparing Openings of Romeo and Juliet I am going to discuss the two films, Romeo and Juliet, by Franco Zefferelli 1968, and Baz Luhrmann, 1997. Both these films are quite different, not just because of the dates in which they were produced, but because of the scenes that they are set in. For instance, Luhrmann's film is set in Los Angeles in the 20th century and the Zefferelli production is set in an Italian city in the 1600's. The opening scene of the Zefferelli film is very calm and relaxed, because of the slow tuneful music, whereas the opening scene of Luhrmann's film has no background music at all. Instead, it only has a television screen, on which a black woman reads the prologue as a news report.
