Zefirelli, an Italian film maker, was one of the most significant directors to translate this play from paper to film, he made a version of the play in 1968. Another significant adaptation of this play was by An Australian film maker in 1997 named Baz Luhrmann. Zefirelli perceived a true medieval, authentic perception of the play where as Luhrman chose to use a modern day adaptation, aiming his film at a younger generation.
