A Study of the Genre of Horror Films As we all here will have watched a horror film we are all aware of its form of genre. Horror films are written and made to unsettle, panic and shock its audience whilst invoking and captivating our worst fears. Whether our choice of horror film have a sub-genre of supernatural content, psychological or a thriller the films try to deal with our most primal nature our nightmares and vulnerability. Horror films had only a minimum amount of discussion until the mid to late 1970's when the genre was deemed significant enough to put on the agenda for film studies. A quote by Robin Wood suggests that horror films are easily ignored and have previously been dismissed by critics due to their frightening nature.
