Introduction "Less than a decade ago, the concept of dial services was reserved for the technically astute or the emerging service provider. Fewer technologies have gone through the evolution and diversification that remote access services have experienced, driven by end-user demands, remote access services address a portfolio of requirements: from mobile user to remote office, Internet access to business-to-business connectivity, and private networks to Internet virtual private network (IVPN) infrastructures. As we move into the new millennium, the introduction of mobility and wireless capabilities, again driven by end user demands, will shift the concept of remote access services away from its "wireline" legacy to an "untethered" means of communication.
