... In the play A Midsummer Night's Dream, there seemed to be a lot of conflicts and tension between certain characters. Conflicts and tension between decisions of love, power and tradition. For this essay I chose to discuss two sources of tension between what characters desire and what they should do. The characters which I chose were Hermia and Egues, her father, and Egues and Theseus, the Duke. I will discuss what they desire and what actions they should take. In the beginning of A Midsummer Night's Dream, there are several sources of conflict and tension that serve to provide material for the succeeding plot. For instance, there is the tension between Lysander and Demetrius over Hermia, the conflict between Hermia and her father, between the lover's desires and the laws of Athens, and even conflict between how Theseus met Hippolyta and his present desire to marry her.
