There is much criticism on the definitions of the offences. There is still no clear definition of assault and battery, and the definitions of the more serious offences such as "assault" in s. 47 and "maliciously" in s. 18 are still in old and misleading language. As the law stands, someone could threaten to kill you today and that would be an assault, if the person was to say the same but add tomorrow and it would be. Certain offences have to be looked at because of the definitions of seriousness. E.g. assault and battery, which can be punishable with up to six months imprisonment, and a s. 47 which can be punished by five years. The only real difference between them is that...
