What similarities and differences exist between the constitutions of the US and the UK? 'A constitution sets out the formal structure of the state, specifying the powers and institutions of central government, and its balance with central authority. In addition, constitutions list the rights of citizens and in doing so create limits on and duties for the government.' * Comparative government and politics- Rod Hague & Martin Harrop. A typical constitution contains four parts, the first being the preamble which is a declaration of the principle, the second is the organizational section setting out the powers if various institutions of government, the third is bill of rights covering individual and group rights and finally it lays out the procedures for amendment defining the methods if revising the constitution.
