In discussing the causes leading up the American Civil War, or as we call it where I am from: The War Between The States, I would like to create an analogy here. I would like to portray the causes for the war as rungs on a ladder. Picture this ladder descending from ground level (stability and peace) down to the pit of doom (war) with every step bringing you closer to the fire and brimstone of a hellish existence wracked by issues that pit brother against brother and tore the very foundation of the United States itself. Picture the people of the United States climbing down this ladder and every rung takes them away from peace and prosperity and closer to hostility and conflagration. Imagine also, that with each step down, the previous rung on the ladder becomes unbelievably slippery and makes it practically impossible to reverse direction back up...
