Addams vs. Durkheim: the Battle between the Sexes Based on North American thought today, the word "patriarchy" conveys undertones of negative ideals of the past. A society of fairness where all are to be considered equal under the law regardless of race, religion and particularly gender, stands in place. However, those who have been disadvantaged in the past decades now have the chance to voice their opinions and no one is shy.
