Rob Nelson 12-3 Law essay Mr. Ion 19.2.04 'Should all legislation go through elected bodies?' There are three sources of law in this country- case law, EU law and legislation. There are two types of legislation, Acts of Parliament and delegated legislation. I will concentrate on delegated legislation, which is basically law made by something or someone other than parliament. Delegated legislation can be interpreted as an undemocratic method of law making, mainly because the vast majority of people involved in this process are not directly accountable to the English public. These people aren't voted for by the public, therefore they cannot be truly viewed as our representatives. Delegated legislation can be digested into three types; orders in council, statutory instruments and bylaws. Orders in council are made by the Privy Council, which is called upon in times of emergency when parliament is not actually sitting. In a state of emergency...
