For centuries things that were not accepted are being accepted. Beliefs that were deeply ingrained in society are being questioned. Bourdieu writes that У the natural and social world appear as self-evident. This experience we shall call a doxaФ (164). Doxa refers to that which is considered natural, that which we do not question. Bourdieu argues that, Уthe adherence expressed in the doxic relation to the social world is the absolute form of recognition and legitimacy through misrecognition of arbitrariness, since it is unaware if the very question of legitimacy, which arises from competition of legitimacyФ(168). To reveal the truth of a doxa, it must be questioned through a Уcritique, which brings the undisguised to discussion, the unformulated into formulationФ(168).
