Journalists are said to 'describe society to itself. They seek truth. They convey information, ideas and opinions, a privileged role. They search, disclose, record, question, entertain, suggest' and importantly 'they inform citizens and animate democracy' (white, p.288). On a day to day basis a journalist or editor may be forced to make extremely tough ethical decisions as to what information they should or should not publish or write in story, the consequences of these ethical decisions may have extreme ramifications.
