By section 2 of the European Communities Act 1972, Community law is supreme. The court of justice has held that there is a principle of supremacy of Community law. Nevertheless there is no reference to this principle in the Treaty. However in Flaminio Costa v Enel1in a statement it was addressed that the community law in practice has created its own legal body, which held its own sovereignty to the member of states who joined the European Union. This demonstrated limited sovereign powers of the members' state and established that community law was most sovereign. United Kingdom entered the European Community Act through Parliament. In European Communities Act 1972, section 2 (1) Parliament gave the force of law in United Kingdom to be directly compatible to the community law.
