Introduction to Law What is law? To the general public it's a boundary of right and wrong, but in actual fact it goes further and is incorporated in the manner we lead our every day lives. As defined by Encarta Encyclopaedia, law is a body of official rules and regulations, generally found in constitutions, legislation, judicial opinions, and the like, that is used to govern a society and to control the behaviour of its members. There are many different divisions in law, the most famous and largely recognized is Criminal Law. Criminal law involves prosecution by the authority of a person for an act that has been classified as a crime. There are two types of crimes, felonies (more serious offences - like murder or rape) and misdemeanours (less serious offences - like petty theft or traffic offence). Felonies are usually crimes punishable by imprisonment for a year or more, while misdemeanours...
