What do judges and academics mean when they say that the UK Constitution is based on "The Rule of Law". To what extent does the rule of law enable the exercise of Government power to be controlled. The Rule of Law is seen as a key pillar of the United Kingdoms Constitution. It is a fundamental principle of our constitution. However despite the significant importance there has been difficulty in actually defining what the "Rule of Law" means. This is due to the fact that the rule of law means different things to different people. The primary concept of the rule of law evolved at the time of Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, almost two thousand years ago however Albert Venn Dicey, an English Legal Scholar dwelled further into the meaning and the purpose of the rule of law and went on to develop a theory which is now the modern doctrine...
