Law Assignment Danielle McVarnock 13704304 Q1 Under certain circumstances, the theoretical distinctions between criminal law and civil law become increasingly obscure. Discuss Law can be defined as "The law of a particular state is the body of rules designed to regulate human conduct within that state" (Business Law, 6th Edition, K.R Abbot, and N Pendlebury). Law can be classified in two ways, civil law and criminal law. Civil law is when a person seeks compensation for a loss which they have suffered. This is dealt within a civil court and both parties' names are used. The basic proceedings are the plaintiff brings action against a defendant. If the plaintiff is successful then the court can order the defendant to pay the plaintiff owed debt. An example of a law case is Rylands v Fletcher. In this case the defendants employed independent contractors to construct a reservoir on their land. The contractors found disused mines...
