THE SOURCES OF CONSTITUTIONAL LAW - CONVENTIONS The study of constitutional law in the United Kingdom involves the examination of the legal rules which are classified as dealing with matters within the scope of constitutional law, such as the powers of the House of Lords, the right to vote and the regularity with which elections have to be held. Moreover the study of constitutional law also involves the examination of those non legal rules or conventions which are evidence of what actually the organs of government do. The term "legal rules" is referred to those principles, which are enforceable in a court of law. In the UK we have two such sources of law, legislation and case law. Legislation is the most important one of the two as courts will always follow the doctrine of precedence and follow a statutory provision rather than the common law. The most significant statutes...
