Priscilla Okoli 24/10/02 THE LEGAL PROFESSION The legal profession consists of different branches or divisions commonly called lawyers. This consists of barristers, solicitors, legal executives and Para legal. But I will be concentrating on the two main types which are barristers who are also referred top as the Bar and solicitors. These two groups of learned people carry out varied roles in the British legal system. Here this will examine their major roles separately and portraying areas of possible improvement and reform but first I will explain differences. In the U.K. the profession is separate and the training is also different for solicitors and barristers. Both professions do basically the same type of work but in different proportions. Solicitors do more of paperwork and little advocacy - which is representing clients in a court of law. Barristers do more of advocacy and very little paperwork.
