SOLICITORS AND BARRISTORS TRAINING SOLICITORS: * It is usual to have a Law degree, however, those without have to do an extra years training and pass the Common Professional Examination (CPE). * The next stage is the one-year LPC, which includes training in skills such as client interviewing, negotiation and advocacy. * In passing the LPC a training contract must be obtained. This can be with a firm, or in an organisation such as the CPS. The training contract is for two years. * A 20-day professional skills course must be completed during training period. * After completing all the above the trainee will be admitted as a solicitor by the Law Society. BARRISTORS: * To qualify as a barrister it is again usual to have a Law degree, again it is also possible to qualify by taking the Common Professional Examination (CPE). * The next stage would be to take the Bar Vocational Course, emphasising practical skills of drafting...
