Nowadays, people often call for reform in the law relating to a number of issues, recent examples being the murders of Sarah Payne, Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells. The murder of Sarah Payne brought calls for reform in the law relating to public knowledge of the domicile of paedophiles, and while the murders of the latter two girls had similar requests, a common opinion among many groups was to bring back hanging. So-called 'Sarah's Law' had some effect in Parliament, but as yet the Chapman and Wells killings have seen no change in the law, proving, perhaps, that vigilante organizations really have little effect, and that all decisions relating to amendments of legal rules must rest with the government-appointed law reform bodies. While these problems may arise, they are fairly rare. It appears, hence, that the associations dealing with law reform are operating relatively smoothly.
