Legal profession past paper questions 2003 a) To become a solicitor, there are three routes. The first route is when you start from A-levels and then go onto a law degree. The second also starts from A-levels but a person may go onto a non law degree of which they can then obtain a 1year Common Professional Examination (CPE). 3) A non-graduate, usually a mature student will obtain a two-year (CPE). This route is less common as the law society encourage people to put in an extra year to obtain a law degree; therefore they can enter in the conventional matter. The majority of successful applicants obtain an upper class degree, although there is no set minimum degree. However there are exceptions to this case and some applicants will be successful with a lower second class degree. The next step for graduates is to attend a one year legal practice course.
