Lawyers are trained legal professionals who can explain the laws to you. They are there to let people know the options that are available. Their job is to negotiate or mediate conflicts with other people, prepare letters, court forms, or other legal documents for you and to represent you in the court of law. The first process to entering the field of law is to acquire a bachelor's degree in any major. A few common degrees for first year law students are political science, liberal arts and history to name a few. Once the individual has obtained their bachelor's degree and has decided to enter law school there are many processes. Depending upon how confident the individual is they might decide to attend workshops by becoming a member of the Law School Admission Council.
