Introduction to Australian Law- Essays Lawyering As lawyers , we have real power that other members of the community may not have. We know how the legal institutions work, we know how to "find the law", and we often know where the limitations of the system may be exploited- the "loopholes". Lawyers have real power also because of the central importance as an aspect of government in our community that law has. As a consequence of this power, lawyers often have high incomes and high social status. As a result of this power lawyers have a duty to the community Lawyers see themselves as a member of a profession-the Legal Profession.
