When exploring the relationships between the three branches of government and the states, one must first define each branch, and then analyse this relationship. In order to do this, I will need to carefully compare and evaluate the constitutional powers and checks and balances placed on each branch and also the state's influence. This will lead me into discovering how these relationships operate in reality. The constitution was created in the Philadelphia Convention of 1787. The original purpose was to revise the Articles of Confederation; however the delegates decided to draft an entirely new document, which aimed to have a strong centre whilst preserving states rights of the 50 states and individual liberties.
