Public Law Assignment Number 1 The Rule of Law Explain what is meant by The Rule of Law. Consider whether The Rule of Law is still of relevance to the modern British Constitution. The concept of The Rule of Law is steeped in history. Such concepts are to be found in the writings of both Aristotle and Plato, as they are in Roman History. As democracy developed over the centuries so did the concept of The Rule of Law, particularly in the writings of St Thomas Aquinas in the thirteenth century, which began to inject Christian beliefs and morals into the ideal. In what we today regard as the "western" world a balance between religious views and monarchic governance began to have substantive impact on the development of legal thinking and legal institutions.
