Does the coronial jurisdiction provide the missing link in the criminal justice system for victims, society and the search for truth? Society has the right to the truth, when it comes to any unnatural, sudden or unexplained death. It is the coroner's role to give society the truth. Coroners were first established in 1194, they morphed from being mundane med evil tax collectors to what we have at present, independent judicial officers who investigate sudden, violent or unnatural deaths. The reason for this change of the coroner's methods is because people were getting concerned, many homicides were going undetected through inadequate medical investigation, however despite this change there have been recent floors in the coronership, such as the Harold Shipman Murders and the Marchioness case.
