Discuss the part played by Equity in the formation of the law as it exists. Prior to the Norman Conquest, Britain was invaded by the Anglo Saxons. By 850AD they had managed to occupy most of the country, however, there was no powerful control or methodical development of the law throughout the whole kingdom. As a result of this, each region made up their own rules in accordance with their local customs and views. After a great deal of warfare, in 1066, William the Conqueror acquired the English throne and formed a central government. Apart from making other changes, he worked towards standardising the law by discussing the diverse customs of different parts of the country. He processed these customs by separating the ones he found to be unreasonable and accepting those that seemed sensible to form a coherent body of rules.
