Describe and Evaluate the present organisation of the legal profession In England and Wales there are two main types of lawyers they are Barristers and Solicitors. There are other personnel in the English Legal system such as par- legals, legal executives etc. There are about seventy thousand solicitors in the UK. Some work for the state but the majority work in private practise. Their main functions are to advise on the law, negotiate on behalf of the clients, prepare documents and conduct litigation in a wide variety of areas of law including conveyance, probate, family law and housing etc. Pre 1990 solicitor were only allowed presence in the magistrate and county courts but after The Courts and Legals Services Act 1990, they can represent clients in other higher courts providing they hold the certificate of advocacy, to gain this certificate the solicitor must practise for at least three...
