CRITICALLY EVALUATE THE LAW RELATING TO THE POSSESSION OF DRUGS. The possession of drugs relating to the law can be seen to be governed by the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. Here the government has put controlled drugs into different categories, Class A, Class B and Class C depending on the harmful affects of it. Class A being the most harmful and Class C the least harmful. Possessions of all controlled drugs are illegal with some exceptions. The exceptions are controlled under 5 schedules. Schedule 1 drugs can only be possessed by the issue of a license by the Home Office in relation to doctors and scientists engaged in research. These drugs cannot be dispensed or prescribed by doctors. Schedules 2 and 3 mainly cover drugs in relation to medical therapeutic uses. Doctors, pharmacists, scientific researcher institutes, hospital sisters and nursing homes can be in possession of drugs under this schedule. Possessions by patients are...
