Alternative Dispute Resolution There are thousands of civil court cases each year, where a claimant tries to claim compensation from a person or company for a wrong they believe has been committed. However, while there are advantages to the civil court - for example, a legally qualified judge will decide the case for you and there is an appeal system if you are unhappy with the decision of the trial judge, there are also disadvantages to the system. Civil courts are expensive, and there are delays in waiting for trial. It has been found by Lord Woolf that the trials often cost more than is being claimed, and there can be a wait of around one and a half years for the trial to start.
