Abstract A landmark United States Supreme Court case was held in1966. This influential case was Miranda v. Arizona, 384 U.S. 436. The Miranda case deals with due process, mainly the Fifth and Sixth Amendments. Ernesto Miranda, a poor Mexican immigrant, was arrested in Phoenix, Arizona for armed robbery, and kidnapping and raping an eight-teen year old girl. While in police custody, he signed a written confession to the crime. Miranda was convicted and his lawyers appealed on the grounds that Miranda didn't know he was protected from self-incrimination (Landmark Cases). The decision was vary controversial. It presented issues of an individual's knowledge of his/her rights and law enforcements responsibility in notifying individuals of their rights. These rights, of course, apply to all citizens, including handicapped and disabled citizens. To insure adequate and appropriate communication with deaf and hard-of-hearing citizens, all law enforcement agencies have a Federal mandate to follow. Miranda issues...
