-1- A Background to the Privy Council & its position in the Caribbean Commonwealth Judicial System The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council was created via the 1833 Act as well as a series of Acts that followed.1 This Committee was established because of the enormity of appeals and other judicial affairs that were being brought before the Privy Council from the colonies during the eighteenth century. The establishment of this Committee was of great necessity in improving the administration of justice in Her Majesty's Privy Council by regulating the jurisdiction of British judges.
