Recant campaigns by the Equal Opportunities Commission, Trade unions and the Government have put closing the gender pay gap firmly on the negotiating agenda. Women full-time workers still earn only 82% of male average hourly earnings, and for part-time workers the situation has hardly changed in 30years, still only earning 59% of male fulltime earnings, despite Equal Opportunities being the central social policy issue of the last 25years. Progress has been made to improve women's position in employment, but they are still undeniably, significantly disadvantaged compared to men in the work place.
