With restorative justice becoming ever more popular in everyday criminal law there has been increased interest in its effectiveness, (Presser and Van Voorhis, 2002). In order to assess whether restorative justice is the way ahead for the penal system it is important examine its roots in history. To look at the variations of restorative whilst taking into account the variations of criminal acts. Thus the effectiveness of restorative justice will be linked to types of criminal acts.
