Hay Friday, February 14, 2003 Ring, 1 The Robert Latimer case of 1993 - 1998 was one of the most intriguing and captivating cases in Canadian history. When Robert Latimer caringly took his daughter Tracy's life, due to her severe "Cerebral palsy"1, he never imagined that the Supreme Court of Canada would have such a disregard for compassionate suicide to give him 10 years imprisonment. Many similar outcomes resulted in lesser sentences for more brutal circumstances that will be covered later on in this paper. The actual sentence was outlined by "the accused was found guilty of second degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole eligibility for 10 years; the Court of Appeal upheld the accused's conviction and sentence, but this Court ordered a new trial."2 The Supreme Court of Canada sentenced Latimer with second-degree murder other then a more advisable compassionate homicide.
