Katie Poon Racism...1 CHILDER and young people were key language abusers to Chinese people on the streets and also main attackers on Chinese takeaways, according to a report "The Needs & Helping-seeking Behaviours of UK Chinese People" which will be published next month. Dr. Graham Bowpitt, Dr. Bankole Cole and Dr Chak Kwan Chan, University of Nottingham Trent carried out this study in 2003. It also found the unresponsive and even prejudiced attitudes from public services providers might discourage Chinese people seeking help from the formal sector. The UK Chinese rights organisation, Min Quan, has dealt with over 90 cases of racial harassment and racist attacks against Chinese over the last four years. The vast majority of these cases are concerning Chinese take away shops. Jabez Lam of Min Quan, an affiliate of The Monitoring Group, expressed his opinion on this finding.
