Heroin Cases In cases where a person had self-injected with a lethal substance and died, we know that it was the injection of the substance that caused the death of the victim and fault on this basis would show that it was the victim who was liable for their own death. However in some cases the self-injection had occurred due to a chain of events created by another person that made it extremely likely that the victim would immediately use the syringe when it was handed to them. Many courts would be reluctant not to impose liability on that third party but have had difficulty when trying to find fault of that other person. Causation was found to be a problem in these cases due to the difficulty reaching a consensus as to whether the act of self-injection, was enough to break a chain of events created...
