Criminal shadows: Inside the mind of a serial killer, David Canter (1995), HarperCollins Psychology Professor, David Canters quest in this book is to reveal how rapists and murderers involuntarily leave behind shadows of their identity at crime scenes. These shadows that are unconsciously left behind by the criminal can guide Canter into building up a psychological profile of the offender. His aim is to show how details (their shadows) at a crime scene such as the way the victim is tied, raped, beaten, spoken to among many others can help interpret the criminals thinking, background or even their next course of action. Throughout this book it is shown how a computer and detectives experience, intuition and general knowledge is simply not enough to solve a crime and that criminal profiling may be the key.
