The law on self-defence is clearly inadequate and in need of reform, discuss The law on self-defence is defined in section 3 of the criminal law act NI 1967 where it states "A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of a crime or in effecting or assisting the lawful arrests of offenders or suspected offenders or persons unlawfully at large"1 This does not automatically make self-defence clear. However, the rational conclusion that prevention of a crime and self-defence in legal terminology go hand in hand is unequivocal. To act in self-defence, one will consequently be simultaneously preventing a crime. This defence is also imposed onto the protection of others. If A's life is in danger from B, A is permitted to act with reasonable force as to impede B. However the situation of A's being attacked by B will also be legally justified in the...
