There is a strong theme of Replacement Theology and Hunter points out that "Exodus motifs abound" in the signs. For Example in the Healing at the Pool, the length of time the paralytic had been ill is 38 years, the same length of time the Israelites were wandering in the wilderness in the Old Testament. Jesus is the new Moses, bringing the world out of spiritual blindness. This is linked to the Prologue, which states "For the law came through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ".
