'It is impossible to reconcile any kind of determinism with the concept of freewill.' Discuss Freewill and libertarianism means we are free and responsible for our actions. Determinism is that we are not free and therefore not responsible for our actions which are predetermined. So the statement is saying it is impossible for us to be determined because of the concept of freewill. However, soft determinism is where we are responsible for our own actions but are limited by our environment and nature so some events are determined. This goes against the statement and suggests freewill and determinism are compatible and there can be a balance between them. A Determinist would agree with the title because they believe we do not have freewill and our actions are already determined, we cannot be held responsible for our actions.
