SOCRETES Socrates' father was a sculptor, and his mother, a midwife. He was married and had three sons. His wife was known as a difficult woman- Socrates himself attested that he, having learned to live with his wife-, would be able to cope with any other human being, "just as a horse trainer accustomed to wilder horses might be more competent than one not".He enjoyed going to "Symposia", or drink-talking sessions. He was a legendary drinker, remaining sober even after everyone else in the party had become very drunk. He was portrayed in paintings and sculptures as having an ugly and tough looking face. Socrates had an attitude to go along with his face. Socrates had a tough personality. In fact he served in the army for several years.
