Have a little read: ... Saint Augustine's writing, Confessions, made a point to it's readers regarding God. The title of the writing is itself explanatory, giving a hint to the reader about the content. Augustine wanted the reader to be as effected as he was while writing "Confessions" and realizing the real truth of his and the reader's existences. He emphasized primarily on the issue of knowing, understanding God better and how we can get close to God as he is to us. Augustine also talks about the relationship between body, memory, mind and the soul being a bridge to God. One other major point by Augustine is that everything in our memory is not images of our experiences but some of the thoughts are preinstalled by God.
