Outline the reasons why it may be claimed that religion and morality are linked. Theists believe that our morality comes from God, and that as a result, religion and morality are inextricably linked. This essay will attempt to outline the reasons why theists believe so. The divine command theory is dominant in theism, as it sustains the belief that God is unlimited with regard to knowledge, power, extension and moral perfection. It is the theory that an act is morally right if commanded by God, and morally wrong if forbidden by God. Right and wrong become objective matters as the Divine Command Theory tells us they relate to a higher good, and are not simply the result of customs or personal feelings.
