Theresa Duong Religion 209 12/5/2002 Gospel of Thomas: God Lies Within the Self The gospel of Thomas is a collection of Jesus' sayings found in the Nag Hammadi library. Unlike the synoptic gospels, the Gospel of Thomas makes no mention of Jesus' death or resurrection; there is no narration, and no stories about Jesus' actions (Ehrman, 185). Jesus' sayings make up the entire book, which indicates that the author of Thomas believes emphasis should be concentrated on Jesus' words. Jesus' sayings become vital for deliverance and entrance into the Kingdom of God in this gospel. Throughout the gospel Thomas' Jesus acts as a guide, through his words, to help followers see where the Kingdom lies, within them. Jesus does not expect all people to understand his sayings, but regardless, for those who listen his sayings can help them know what it takes to find God.
